Among these are a bigger screen at 5.1 inches compared to the smaller S4, a biometric scanner and an impressive array of sensors including a heart rate monitor. Samsung has bumped up the power and processing power of the S5 while maintaining some features and specs of the S4. Apart from the bigger screen at 5.1 inches, it has maintained RAM at 2GB and internal storage at the standard 16/32GB. The following are some of the other key specs:-

Other notable features and attributes include support for 128GB microSD cards and faster connectivity with a download booster that leverages Wi-FI connections and LTE to speed up downloads to speeds of up to 30MB.

The battery has been upgraded from the 2600mAh in the S4 to 2800mAh while still being removable, which is a relief for many Samsung users. Samsung has also implemented smart batter technology with a new Ultra Power Saving mode that puts the sidplay to black and white when the battery gets below 10% ensuring you get more juice from your device.

Samsung has made a big leap with the Camera in the S5, not so much in the non-impressive 16MP sensor, which is almost a standard in most smartphones nowadays, but in how the images are processed.

It features Selective focus which allows you to alter the focus after the image has been taken and a real time HDR Live Modewhich can give you a preview of how the picture might look like once taken. The end result in the shots are remarkable.

Samsung has also improved the autofocus feature, reducing the focus time to about 0.3 seconds. This translates to rapid capture on the cards. The Galaxy S5 can also shoot video in 4k -3840 * 2160 pixels resoltuions, comes in handy for capturing those special moments though you might want to invest in a larger capactity SSD.

Samsung like other manufacturers in the smart phone industry seem to be dedicated to keeping you in good shape. To achieve this, the Korean tech giant has packed the Galaxy S5 with a myriad sensors including a heart rate monitor and a pedometer which combined with S Health 3.0 and the new Gear smart watches will ensure you stay in tiptop health condition.

Finger Print Scanner.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a finger print biometric scanner. This follows closely a trend started by the iPhones. Unlike Apples biometric technology though, the Samsung fingerprint scanner is open and integrated with mobile payments (via paypal). It also acts as an access control piece on the S% providing a quick and easy way to securely unlock the handset.

Conclusion

Samsung seems to have gone back to the drawing drawing board with the S5. It scrapped all the infuriating features on the S4 and instead packed the S5 with an impressive array of features and functionalities. Maybe it doesn’t beat the bar as far as impressiveness is concerned, but in its support, it has a bigger stronger screen, better battery and power management, impressive waterproof casing and a finger print scanner.

If you are after functional, the S5 is a steal. In terms of performance juice though and more advanced features, you might wait and see what the competition pumps out.
