Often times, we find ourselves fumbling and looking for ideas of what to do with our NFC tags. You read that it is a great rising technology, and there are so many things you can do with it to streamline some of the tasks we undertake during our day.
Today, we want to talk about NFC Tag ideas and NFC Tag combinations which could be useful for whenever you are on the go. It doesn’t matter if you are commuting or driving your own car, surely there is something NFC can help you do.
Car Profile Ideas [Navigation]
Since today’s smartphones usually come with an app or two for navigation, it would be a nice idea to keep a tag that works around that if you are using such services on your phone. You can set up a car profile with the following specifications:
First, you want your phone to turn on your GPS and turn off your Wi-Fi. While having Wi-Fi on does make navigating more accurate, it wastes too much battery. If you want to keep it on, then make sure the tag is set to enable it too.
Take note that turning on the GPS through an NFC tag requires root. If your phone is not rooted, then kindly ignore that option.
Your second priority would be to enable Bluetooth if you plan to take calls while on the go. You can always leave it off if you don’t need it.
The next set of actions should save you from a sudden distraction. Regardless if you have Bluetooth headphones or not, you should lower the volume to the least possible value that you can still hear, but it will not take full attention away from the road. Maybe you can set it up on either 1 or 2. Since you are in a closed environment, it shouldn’t be an issue.
You may also want to disable the vibration feature since vibration would not be necessary for your leisurely drive.
Of course, the most important part is setting up the tag to launch your favorite navigation app. We already learned how to do that in the previous chapters. Check it out if you haven’t read it yet. You can even set up your tag to automatically launch Navigation and direct you to a set location.
Car Profile Ideas [Music Playback]
Some people love to listen to their favorite tunes while on the car. Even if the car came with a sound system, many people have turned to the convenience of MP3 files as well as the convenience of streaming music from the cloud.
Some smartphones today could also come with radio apps onboard, so if your car radio is busted, you could always turn to your phone.
This profile idea shares a lot of tasks with navigation. First off, you want your tag to toggle the radios off. This means to turn off your Wi-Fi and GPS. You can also turn on mobile data, but that will also require you to have root access to be automated by NFC.
You have the option of turning on the Bluetooth if you prefer listening to music with a Bluetooth headset, but my advice is it will be safer to just let it play though the speaker or maybe a speaker dock while on the go. Plugging your ears is not very advisable when you are driving.
It would be in your best interest to test whatever volume level is comfortable for your music playback. For me, it would be around 5 within that closed environment. Be sure to also lower the volume of your notifications and calls while in the car so that it will not serve as a distraction. Vibration should also be kept off to lower the battery stress.
Now, set up your device to launch your favorite music application. Be sure to check the “Launch Activities” option to check if your app has an instant “play” or “playback” activity, so that you don’t even have to touch the play button as soon as it starts.
